Worked example
For example, for a roof with 15 squares of area:
- 15 squares × 3 bundles per square = 45 bundles needed
- Each bundle covers roughly 33 sq ft
- Standard pallet: 30-36 bundles per pallet
- Order 50 bundles to cover starter strips, ridge caps, and waste
- Also order ridge vent, drip edge, and underlayment
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Not matching the shingle color across bundles | Mix bundles from different pallets as you work for even color distribution |
| Installing in cold weather | Shingles need warm temps to seal — below 40°F, the adhesive strips wont activate |
| Overdriving nails | Nail heads should be flush with the shingle surface — driven too deep they puncture and leak |
